The Excellence through Quality Improvement Project (E-QIP), Ontario Health, the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) are partnering again this year to deliver a QI Innovations conference on Better Data, Better Decisions, Better Outcomes. We are pleased to announce we are currently accepting abstracts for our 2023 virtual conference taking place on April 18th, 2023.

Tell us your story of your data journey

Regardless of where you are, there are lessons to be learned and things that were learned “the hard way” to achieve better outcomes. Tell us your story of your data journey and its successes and learnings under one of the following categories (may choose to submit multiple abstracts to share your journey at different stages).  We are currently accepting abstracts that explore the following three themes:

• Theme One: Getting Started: What Do I Do with All This Data?
• Theme Two: Adjusting: Data Exhaustion Strategies and Learnings
• Them Three: Progressing: Telling Your Data Story and Engagement In QI

Theme One: Getting Started: What Do I Do with All This Data?
Tell us your story of how you began to use your data more effectively. What did you learn the hard way that others could benefit from?

Topics including but not limited to:

  1. So much data and so little time.  How have you maintained/improved data entry practices and data quality in an era of prolonged resource scarcity (financial, staffing shortages)
  2. How do you know how you are doing? (relevant comparators and benchmarks)
  3. Tell us about data collection tools you found or developed and how those have helped
  4. How did you convince others to join you on the data journey?

Theme Two: Adjusting: Data Exhaustion Strategies and Learnings
Beginning to review data to better understand your client population needs, preferences and/or characteristics and how it can support service planning and resource allocation decisions.

Topics including but not limited to:

  1. Beginning to explore how your data can contribute to your organization’s or OHT’s quality improvement initiatives.
  2. You have successes and learnings you can share from using your data, for example:
    i. Maintaining data entry practices and data quality during staffing shortages
ii. When faced with multi-agency integration with differing data approaches
  3. In your partnership or collaborative quality planning work (e.g. OHTs, Quality Improvement Planning.)
  4. Match what organizational strategic goals with the data you need to collect for performance management
  5. How have you changed your approach to collecting and using data over time?
  6. How have you kep the focus on data over competing priorities (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic)

Theme Three: Progressing: Telling Your Data Story and Engagement In QI
Tell us your story of how you advanced in being able to communicate with data and/or involve clients/family/staff in your quality improvement initiatives.

Topics including but not limited to:

  1. You have used data visualization to communicate with your staff, board, community, clients, families (dashboards and/or scorecards).
  2. You have used data in decision making
  3. You used data to improve staff and organizational performance (benchmarks etc.)
  4. How have you used data to improve the client, family, or staff experience?
  5. You have provided training to your staff to increase their capacity to collect and use data
  6. How have you involved clients, families and/or staff in data decision making and quality improvement (or change practices)?

Abstracts will be accepted until January 6, 2023, at 5 pm EST

Organizations interested in submitting multiple abstracts for the conference are welcomed to do so. Please submit one abstract per submission. We will let you know by January 20, 2023, if your abstract has been accepted as a concurrent session presentation/workshop or a poster presentation. Please note, final versions of poster presentations will be due by March 31, 2023.

Conference sessions will be offered in a variety of formats:

All formats will be expected to provide interactive elements to ensure audience engagement. Note: polling and breakout rooms are an option with our conference platform. Please note: Based on the number of presentations we receive; we may have to combine presentations. If your abstract is not accepted, you may have an opportunity to present a poster presentation.

1. Panel discussion

2. Presentation/Workshop
A Presentation/Workshop provides a platform for presenters to share expertise and/or for participants to develop a new skill. Presentations/Workshops will take an interactive approach that will invite audience participation and/or provide participants a 'hands-on' experience of the subject.

Last year’s conference, QI Innovations: Better Data, Better Decisions, Better Outcomes was extremely well attended with over 1000 registrants and over 700 attendees. In addition, our virtual Exhibitor Hall and Poster Gallery were the most visited areas of our virtual platform with each area receiving over 500 unique attendees. We anticipate this year’s conference will be similarly well attended and anticipate over 700 attendees.
